SOLD Spring 2013 – 2011 Gozzard 41 Factory Demonstrator

For the first time in over a decade, Gozzard Yachts has a finished Factory Demonstrator available for sale. As you many of you know, Gozzard never builds a “spec” boat… so what’s the story here? Well… this project was originally commissioned by a long time Gozzard owner who unfortunately was unable to complete the contract. Without getting into the details we found ourselves in an unusual position. We picked up the project and fitted her with a brand new galley in addition to numerous upgrades and some uniques changes to our standard D interior. Since we finished her with only a few hours to spare we haven’t even got any photos yet… so the Annapolis show will be the unveiling!

This boat was originally to be one of the most complete specifications we had ever written and is filled with some very interesting ideas, modifications and upgrades. The concept for the forward cabin was to maximize the ergonomics of the forward V settee. To achieve this we extended the seat length forward into the space normally occupied by the forward hanging lockers and designed fully contoured rounded corners for the seat backs. The remaining space forward was utilized as general lockers and because the locker face moved forward it made the forward cabin feel even larger. A central air conditioner was fitted forward of the main bulkhead but uses hard ducting to service remote zones without any significant velocity loss. The standard bi fold privacy panels has been replaced with a one piece sliding/lift up panel which cleverly hides behind the 900 amp hour battery bank locker.

The forward cabin also features a propane space heater with tile surround. The air conditioner is installed under the hearth… and by removing the countertop which ingeniously slides out of the way, it provides great access for servicing. Originally intended to be used in cold climates, the interior was designed to be fitted with a hydronic heating system and various locker bottoms have been isolated for the heat exchangers and plumbing runs… add the Hurricane Heater and the system is complete.

The hanging locker to starboard is fitted with custom shelving – all with individual doors so the locker contents are not exposed when the privacy door is deployed. The forward section of this area has been fitted with a flat screen TV that swings out. Our regular coffee table and its companion dining table are fitted in their usual locations and, other than an additional locker in front of the house battery locker, the forward cabin looks and feels like a slightly bigger version of the standard cabin. These optimizations seem to have successfully added even more character to an already wonderful use of space and these changes may well represent our new standard for this cabin space going forward.

Moving aft into the midsection of the boat you will notice a completely new and even larger galley. The concept here was to create a galley with more storage that was easier to access… and it is simply the largerst galley you will find on any 41 footer any where. The galley now forms a “G” (appropriately) with a centerline sink with double sided access. The side by side top loading fridge/freezer also features our brand new and super cool (literally) front loading drawer.

The aft sections of the interior are quite similar to a conventional G41. The owner’s stateroom is aft to port and it features a sliding privacy bulkhead and a sliding door similar to the “C” and “D” interiors. When these are open (in the down position) the aft cabin becomes part of the interior as opposed to a separate closed off cabin. It feels like a much bigger and significantly improved air flow and ventilation. The cabin is fitted with two opening ports in the cabin sides, a large ventilation hatch in the overhead and another opening port into the cockpit. The cabin is tied into both the heating system and the air conditioning system.

The head is similar in size to a conventional G41… the big different is with the head door. On a standard head, the door opening into the center of the boat forward of the companionway stair… on this boat we made the door slide into a pocket so the door stores effectively out of sight when open. This detail worked out very well. As with the standard head, it features a separate shower with a glass door… the shower compartment is intended for every day “live aboard” use and will be very easy to maintain and keep clean. A wet locker is located within the back of this compartment.

The ships systems are very complete… in addition to all the usual Gozzard standard features, this boat has some interesting addition items. Starting with the engine, you will notice that there is Beta 65 in lieu of the traditional Westerbeke. This was selected because it is based on the newer Kubota engine which was very nicely marinized with serviceability very high on the priority list. Ease of access to pumps, dip sticks, impellers etc all factored in the decision to install… that and the pollution emissions were the lowest in the industry for this sized engine. The engine was also fitted with the latest ideas on belt tensioning… gone are the double pulleys with conventional V belts which wear out and create dust. Instead these are replaced with automatically tensioned serpentine belts which have significantly more contact surface. The engine drive line was upgraded as well with the addition of the Aqua Drive. Instead of the drive shaft been fitted directly to the back of the motor, a constant velocity joint is used to isolate vibration and torque, making the engine very quiet and smooth. The steering system is also brand new … the traditional cable system replaced with a custom built Edson Cobra rack and pinion system… the increase in sensitivity is noticeable even out of the water. The boat is fully fitted with the N2K bus and is ready for the latest electronic devises to be selected and installed. Already equipped with a thruster, all electric winches, a custom davit assembly, mainsheet arch, windlass etc, she is wired and plumbed ready for a genset, water maker and universal voltage system… making her ready to cruise the world.

If you would like more details on this boat and her very attractive pricing… we would welcome the opportunity to talk with you! We will even consider a trade in. We are motivated to sell her now she is finished and this is a rare opportunity to negotiate with the builder to acquire a brand new Gozzard at substantial savings.
