SOLD SPRING 2018 – 1999 Gozzard 37 Hull #3 “Gaviidae”

Gaviidae has been sailed exclusively in fresh water and her systems and rigging are free of the typical salt air and water stresses. She has been the summer home for an adventurous Minnesota couple who recently purchased a Gozzard 41. Gaviidae and her crew explored most of the shoreline of Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Prior owners kept her on Lake Michigan. With the shorter sailing season associated with northern waters, she spent her winters bundled in her winter cover waiting for the spring thaw.

This solidly built and beautifully crafted sailing vessel was designed for offshore cruising but is equally pleasing for coastal and bay sailing. Gaviidae turns heads wherever she goes–even her namesake loons almost always turn out to greet her in remote anchorages. In addition, Gaviidae easily handles all kinds of weather conditions as gracefully as she looks. And like all Gozzard-built boats, Gaviidae is loaded with thoughtful safety and efficiency features such as the water-tight bulkhead behind the anchor locker, all lines running back to the deep cockpit and heavy-duty and redundant rigging. The combination of style, performance and safety found in a Gozzard 37 is a rare and reassuring thing these days, and Gaviidae is an exceptional example of how a cruising yacht can and should look and perform.

Accommodations

The Gozzard 37 interior is legendary for the beautiful cherry finish, exquisite joinery and absolutely innovative design. Gaviidae features the 37A model layout and is fitted with bronze ports and light fixtures thruout.

The forward cabin/saloon in a Gozzard 37A easily converts from a comfortable settee area with an elegant built-in coffee table to a dining area for 6, to a centerline queen size sleeping berth that can be adjusted for sleepers over 6 feet tall. Storage behind the settee backs hide the large dining table and plenty more. A large locker just aft of the port side settee provides abundant storage for clothes, books, or extra provisions.  A propane cabin heater with marble surround is to starboard. Discrete piano hinges on the locker door and the midships bulkhead allow for easy transformation of the forward salon into a private stateroom.

Continuing aft on the port is the forward facing navigation station followed by the refrigeration/freezer cabinet. On the starboard side is the dinette followed by the L-shaped galley.

On the port side of the companionway is the head complete with shower and features convenient access to the engine compartment behind the companionway steps and the forward lazarette. Aft on the starboard side is the aft cabin with king size berth and additional lockers for clothes.
